COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison for assault in connection with a deadly 2022 shooting.

Corey Blueitt, 45, was found guilty in September of third-degree assault. A grand jury had indicted him on first-degree murder and armed criminal action, as well, but a jury found him not guilty on those charges after deliberating for more than two hours.

Blueitt was charged with shooting and killing Aaron Badolato, 34, of Columbia in the 2000 block of Newtown Drive in north Columbia. Police found Badolato in the front yard with a gunshot wound.

Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Roger Johnson said Blueitt will receive credit for time served, which will be calculated by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
