Sedalia baby dies in Platte County crash
PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A baby boy from Sedalia died from injuries he suffered in a crash on Wednesday on Interstate 29 in Platte County, a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report says.
The child’s name was not released in the report. Four vehicles were involved in the crash. The report says that a 2019 Peterbilt tractor trailer – driven by Samani Mahjouri, 57, of Lincoln, Nebraska – was traveling in the southbound lane when it skid and rear-ended a 2002 Toyota Corolla, driven by Patsy Withrow, 78, of Savanah, Missouri.
The crash caused the Toyota to rear-end a 2022 Freightliner tractor trailer – driven by Sultan Singh, 31, of Manitoba, Canada – which went off the right side of the road and hit a tree, the report says. The Peterbilt tractor trailer then hit the Freightliner and the back of a 2022 Ford F350, driven by Joseph Waxmonski, 47, of Linwood Kansas.
Withrow had serious injuries and was brought to North Kansas City Hospital by ambulance, the report says. It’s unknown if she was wearing a seatbelt. The baby was a passenger in Withrow’s vehicle and was secured in a car seat, the report says. The baby was pronounced dead at Children’s Mercy Hospital, the report says. The boy was younger than 1 year old.
Another passenger in Withrow’s vehicle – Terri Swartz, 44, of St. Joseph – had minor injuries and was brought to North Kansas City Hospital by ambulance, according to the report. Swarts was not wearing a seatbelt.
Singh and Waxmonski each had minor injuries and the report says they will seek their own treatment, the report says.
