JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A new program at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City aims to help adults who need help managing withdrawal symptoms.

According to a Thursday press release, StepOne Service is an inpatient three-to-five-day acute withdrawal management service for those experiencing withdrawal symptoms from alcohol and opioids.

The program launched on Thursday and 62 people from 36 different health & human service organizations attended a community information meeting at St Mary’s Hospital to learn how the program works, the release says.

The service is covered by most insurance plans accepted by St. Mary’s Hospital, the release says.

“To qualify, individuals must be at an acute medical stage, already in the process of withdrawal and desiring help resolving their substance use disorder, which may be keeping them from meeting responsibilities at home, school or work,” the release says. “Potential candidates are screened by StepOne Service staff to determine the urgent nature of their health status prior to admission.”
