No injuries reported in north Columbia garage fire, police tape seen
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
No injuries have been reported in a north Columbia garage fire that occurred on Wednesday.
Columbia firefighters were dispatched at 3:41 p.m. to the 1800 block of Holly Avenue. Fire officials said a detached, two-car garage was engulfed in flames. Fire officials have not determined a cause for the fire yet.
We deployed the hose line on after arriving, though, the roof did collapse on the inside of the actual structure so we weren't actually able to make any type of interior attack on it,” Captain Ryan Adams of the CFD said. “We placed two hose lines in service and were able to get it knocked down.”
Police tape was put up before 5 p.m. Police were seen speaking with residents in the area. Firefighters began leaving the scene at 6:18 p.m. At least seven Columbia police officers were at the scene.
Boone County Joint Communications sent a notification at 3:59 p.m. stating that Holly Avenue was closed between Grand Banks and Kitty Hawk Drive “due to fire incident.”
Columbia Police Department spokesman Brian McNeil said in an email that police and the fire department are investigating the cause of the fire.
Two nearby residents told ABC 17 News that they heard what sounded like a large explosion before looking out their window to find a cloud of black smoke billowing down the block. The property owner told ABC 17 News that the house was being rented out and that two classic cars in the garage were destroyed.
