COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police arrested two Columbia men this week in connection with shots being fired in a residential area, bringing the total number of suspects to four.

Officers arrested Derek Reynold, 18, on Monday and Amare Carter, 18, on Tuesday, according to a Columbia Police Department news release. Police had already arrested two juveniles.

Reynold and Carter were charged Tuesday with four felonies each: first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Amare Carter (Boone County Jail)

Police were sent to a shots-fired call near Godas Drive and Valley Creek Lane on Thursday and found two vehicles and a residence hit by bullets. A probable cause statement filed in Reynold's case says officers found six to eight shell casings at the scene. A bullet went through the front window of a residence and out the back while 10 people were inside -- eight of them youths, the statement says.

Police interviewed a witness who told them they were with Reynold and Carter, who planned to do a drive-by shooting on Godas Drive.

The vehicle they were in crashed after shots were fired and Carter and Reynold ran from the scene, court documents say.

Derek Reynold (Boone County Jail)

Reynold told police he was in the vehicle during the shooting but did not have a gun, the statement says.

Both men remained in the Boone County Jail on Tuesday.

A hearing was set for Tuesday afternoon.
