Missouri Task Force 1 cadaver dogs get first mission
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Missouri Task Force 1 was assigned Wednesday to search a 7-mile stretch of remote western North Carolina as part of its continued relief efforts after Hurricane Helene.
A Facebook post by the Boone County Fire Protection District said Wednesday the 45-member team had been tasked with searching the area of the Catawba River in McDowell County, North Carolina. The search is expected to last a couple of days due to significant debris and destruction in the area.
This comes as the task force successfully completed a previous search mission Tuesday, according to the post.
Also Wednesday, seven Missouri Task Force 1 cadaver dog teams received mission assignments. The Facebook post said the teams arrived safely in Charlotte, North Carolina, around 6:30 p.m. Eastern time Tuesday after leaving from Boone County earlier in the day.
The dog teams are seven of 20 from across the country that were assigned missions on Wednesday, according to the post.
