Man accused of arson shot by Phelps County Sheriff’s deputy

PHELPS COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

An arson suspect is hospitalized after being shot by a Phelps County Sheriff's deputy.

According to the Phelps County Sheriff's Department, Central Communications received a call on Saturday at 2:20 p.m. about several structures and vehicles intentionally set on fire in the southwestern part of the county.

The caller also stated the suspect assaulted multiple people, including a juvenile.

Deputies and firefighters responded to the area and deputies began searching for the suspect.

Just before 4 p.m., a deputy found the suspect on a nearby Forest Service Road where the suspect showed a gun and was shot by a deputy, the Phelps County Sheriff's Department said in a facebook post.

The man was flown to a hospital for treatment.

The Phelps County Sheriff's Department says the investigation is ongoing.
