Highway worker dies after getting hit by semi-truck in Pettis County
PETTIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A 60-year-old highway worker died on Tuesday after he was hit by a semi-truck in the 17000 block of Route O in Pettis County, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.
The report states that a 2005 Peterbilt 379 – driven by Brandon Knox, 18, of Hughesville -- was heading north on Route O when it struck a pedestrian. Jay Bone, of Smithon, was pronounced dead at the scene, the report says.
Bone was a worker for the Missouri Department of Transportation and was on the job when the crash happened, the agency wrote in a post on the social media platform X. He was hit in the northbound line by a tractor-trailer that was passing the work crew, Patrol Cpl. Justin Ewing said Wednesday.

Bone’s body was brought to Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia by the Pettis County Coroner.
