Man now charged with murder in death of Osage Beach police officer; released from jail after bond was amended

CAMDENTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man who was accused in the death of an Osage Beach police officer has been charged with murder.

Christopher Wehmeyer, 23, of Camdenton, is now charged with aggravated fleeing and second-degree murder in the death of Officer Phylicia Carson. His bond was amended to $100,000 and jail records indicate that he was released at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25. Monday’s bond order states that Wehmeyer will be under house arrest.

Camden County Prosecutor Richelle Grosvenor filed a motion last week to charge Wehmeyer with second-degree murder. The motion to file the amended complaint was granted on Monday. Judge Aaron Martin was assigned to the case on Sept. 18 after the defense asked for a change of judge on Sept. 16.

Carson died after she lost control of her vehicle while chasing Wehmeyer on Aug. 31. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wehmeyer allegedly told investigators that he was racing and chose not to stop when he saw police lights. The chase reached more than 100 miles per hours as it went through Camden County.
