The trial for a Jefferson City man accused of stabbing the mother of his child to death has been moved to Pulaski County.

On Wednesday, judge Brouck Jacobs ordered the venue to be changed to Pulaski County, according to court documents.

Sergio Sayles, 36, of Jefferson City, was charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, evidence tampering, second-degree stalking and second-degree harassment in the death of Jasmine King.

Police found King dead from stab wounds to her head, face, neck, torso and back in her home in the 300 block of West Ashley Street in April 2023, according to a probable cause statement.

The court granted Sayles the change in venue back in February. In April of 2023, Cole County's top prosecutor filed an intent to seek the death penalty.
