Lincoln University has formally cut ties with its national alumni association, according to Thursday press release from the school.

LU ended its relationship after the Lincoln University of Missouri Alumni Association, Inc. missed its Sept. 1 deadline for a financial audit, the release says.

The school’s Board of Curators announced it was suspending LUAA’s affiliation in June after it had “concerns about the finances, management, and options” with the association. The Board stated in a letter that LUAA had to meet certain criteria in order to become affiliated:

  • Have an independent CPA perform an audit of the association for its two most recent fiscal years and submit it to the university no later than Sept. 1.
  • Create an independent mailing address no later than July 1.
  • Create an independent financial management system outside of the university to receive payments. and donations online no later than July 1.
  • Immediately begin acting as a 501(c)3 organization.
  • Not “publicly disparage” the University or its representatives.

“Following more than two years of efforts by Lincoln University to enter into a standard Memorandum of Understanding that would formally govern our relationship with LUAA – efforts that have been refused by the association – we regret that Lincoln University has been forced to terminate its relationship with the association,” Board of Curators President Victor Pasley said in the release. “While the termination of our relationship with LUAA is unfortunate, we are confident that it will not impede our efforts at expanding alumni engagement – rather, we are determined to strengthen our relationship with key individual alumni chapters to continue those partnerships on behalf of the institution we love.”

LU has agreements with other alumni organizations including the 62nd & 65th Regiments Legacy Foundation, Inc. and the Blue Tiger Athletics Club, the release says. The release also says that LU is establishing an alumni council to connect individual alumni groups.
