Cottleville man drowns in Golden Eagle Lake on Saturday
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Cottleville man died after drowning in the Golden Eagle Lake, the Montgomery county sheriffs office said on Sunday.
According to a social media post from the sheriffs office, Montgomery County Communication received a call from a residence on Redbud Ct. at Golden Eagle Lake in High Hill, Missouri at 5:06 p.m. Aug. 31.
The called said they heard someone in the lake calling for help, the post states.
Upon arrival, emergency services were told a man was swimming in the lake. Witnesses said the man went under the water and didn't resurface, according to the post.
Several people, including two Montgomery County Deputies and a Supervisor with the Montgomery County Ambulance District swan into the water searching for where the victim was last seen.
Multiple agencies, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol--Montgomery County Ambulance District,--Missouri State Highway Patrol's Water Patrol Division-- and the Bellflower Fire Protection District searched for the victim but were unable to locate him.
A decision was made to stop searching before midnight and resume the following morning.
According to the post, on Sept. 1 at 8:30 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Water Division began searching the area again. At 9:35 a.m. the water patrol said they found the victim in about 6-7 feet of water, near where they were searching the previous day.
The victim, who is a 45-year-old man was pronounced dead on scene.
