SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One man was killed after he allegedly broke into a home and was shot by the homeowner on Friday morning in Pettis County.

According to the Pettis County Sheriff, deputies were called to a crash around 1 a.m. on Friday in the area of Anderson School Road and Shire Lane.

At 1:09 a.m. deputies were notified of a burglary in process at home near the accident site, Pettis County Brad Anders said in a release. Anders said the homeowner reported someone had forced their way into the home.

Deputies found the back door of the home was entered by force and that the alleged intruder had been shot by the homeowner, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Pettis County Ambulance District pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to Anders.

"The names of the parties involved are being withheld at this time, pending the notification of the next of kin," Anders said in the release.
