JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

An additional lane on eastbound Highway 54 is now open in Jefferson City.

Motorists began using the new lane just north of the of Missouri River on Thursday, according to a press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The base of the lane was constructed earlier this year in the median from the north end of the Missouri River Bridge to just past the Highway 63 interchange, the release says. An asphalt overlay was placed on the new lane and the road was restriped this week.

Crews will be restriping the Missouri River Bridge overnight Thursday, the release says. The roadway from West Main Street to the Highway 63 interchange will include:

  • Two lanes for eastbound Highway 54.
  • One lane dedicated to northbound Highway 63.
  • The auxiliary lane to Route W (Airport Road).

Construction projects continue on Highway 54.
