Tracking lasting heat with late week possible spotty storms

TODAY: Tuesday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day as heat lingers that could be dangerous with prolonged exposure. Highs will reach mid-90s with enough humidity to have us feel about 10 degrees warmer.

TONIGHT: A few storms may develop after 4 p.m. this evening. Severe weather is not anticipated, but if a storm can sustain itself long enough, it may develop limited hail and wind capability. Either way, locally heavy rain and lightning will be likely.

EXTENDED: Starting in the low 70s, Wednesday is another warm day, but not as extremely hot thanks in part to cluttered skies with remnant clouds, but also to more chances for rainfall through the day. We will still feel like near 100 degrees. More isolated storms will be possible. Thursday will be more questionable regarding rain chances. We expect a chance for isolated storms but a complex to our northwest will have potential to roll in by the evening, but it is most likely that it fizzles before reaching us Thursday night. We'll keep a small chance for storms in the forecast for now, and otherwise expect it to be warm with highs in the 90s, feeling like near 100. The cold front that triggers storm development Thursday will arrive here, and bring mid-Missouri the best chance for rain this week. The front will be a potent one in terms of the cooldown it brings. We expect low humidity and highs back in the 80s over the weekend under clear skies.
