Tracking dangerous heat the next few days

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows in the mid-70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with highs in the upper 90s and a heat index near 105. A Weather Alert Day is in effect.

EXTENDED: We can expect a muggy night as upper high pressure has settled in with the northern edge of the high to our north. Tomorrow will be sunny and brutally hot with heat indices approaching 105 in the afternoon. Tuesday will be similar with highs in the upper 90s and heat indices between 103-106. We could see a few pop up storms on Wednesday as a disturbance rolls through to our north, but most areas still reach the mid-90s with a heat index near 100-102. An approaching cold front will bring relief by late Thursday as scattered showers and storms will be possible by Thursday evening into Friday. We'll get a break from the heat by Friday as highs reach the mid-80s with a chance for storms. The weekend will be cooler than average with temperatures in the low 60s in the mornings and low 80s in the afternoons. Late week rain totals will stay under 1/2".
