Insider Blog: Allergens increasing across Mid-Missouri

Several pollens are continuing to rise, causing issues for Mid-Missourians. The primary three being seen right now are Ragweed, Chenopods, and nettle. These three allergens alone occur towards the end of the summer months.

Ragweed is the most common and heavily saturates the atmosphere each year. It is also known as the main culprit for Hay fever. Because pollen grains are increasing, Chenopods is the next most prevalent across the region.

If you have any plans this coming weekend, you should expect very high pollen levels each day. Rainfall on Saturday might help some of these pollen levels subside for a short time period, but they will rise into Sunday and Monday once again as conditions look to remain on the drier side.

This chart shows the time periods of very high levels in the red category, and medium levels in yellow depending on the time of the year. Ragweed will look to remain the primary allergen all the way through September before decreasing. Another noticeable one going into September will be Goldenrod.
