Mizzou Football closes out week one of fall camp
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The first week of Mizzou Football's 2024 fall camp is officially in the books. The Tigers returned to the Stephen's Indoor Facility for practice No. 6 of camp on Sunday afternoon, ahead of the team's first live scrimmage of the season on Monday, Aug. 5.
You can watch extended highlights of Sunday's practice in the video player below.
After one week of action, most of the newcomers on this year's team have earned their numbers for the upcoming season, including former five-star recruit Williams Nwaneri. The freshman defensive end will wear No. 6, the same number former Mizzou Tiger and first round NFL Draft pick Darius Robinson wore with the Tigers. At the start of fall camp, head coach Eli Drinkwitz said the team is not wanting to put too much pressure on Nwaneri as he makes the transition to the first collegiate practices of his football career.
"I just need him to make sure his shoes are tied, and he's taped up, ready to go. Everything else will take care of itself," Drinkwitz said in his opening press conference of fall camp. "He's plenty talented enough. The key for us is to not put too many expectations on him, just let him learn the standards of how we operate on a day-to-day basis, and when it's his opportunity, he'll take advantage of it. The good news is for him, he doesn't have to feel any pressure, like he's got to come in right now and save the day. We've got a lot of really good players at the defensive end position. Now, he can just come in and get up to speed as quick as possible, and then, just use his natural gifts and abilities."
As Mizzou enters its second week of action, the Tigers still have 11 practices left of this year's fall camp.
