Jefferson City leaders set to meet Thursday to discuss adding two hybrid buses to JEFFTRAN

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is set to discuss adding two hybrid buses to their public transportation system, JEFFTRAN. The addition of these busses is apart of the Transportation Improvement Program.

The group is set to meet at 10 a.m. at City Hall.

In total, purchasing and operating these buses will cost more than $29 million. However, the city will receive grants from the Federal Transit Administration and the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Purchasing two hybrid Gillig buses will cost $1,703,766 and it will cost $28,339,481 for daily operation.

The cost breakdown for purchasing the buses is the Federal Transit Administration will contribute $1,053,363 and Jefferson City will contribute $115,000.

For daily operation, both Jefferson City and the Federal Transit Administration are contributing $12,380,698, Missouri Department of Transportation is giving $394,804, and the City expects to bring in $3,183,281 in bus fares.

According to the meeting packet, these funds will come in from 2025-2029.
