Trump-backed Virginia state Sen. John McGuire defeats US Rep. Bob Good in GOP primary recount

Associated Press/Report for America

GOOCHLAND, Va. (AP) — Trump-backed Virginia state Sen. John McGuire has defeated conservative U.S. Rep. Bob Good in a recount of the Republican primary results in the 5th Congressional  District. Virginia election officials previously certified a narrow win by McGuire in the June 18 primary. They said he defeated Good by 374 votes out of nearly 63,000 cast. But because the margin of victory was just six-tenths of a percentage point, Good was entitled to a recount. McGuire’s margin of victory narrowed by four votes to 370 following Thursday’s recount.
