Tracking dangerous heat through midweek
TODAY: Monday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day as dangerous heat builds into the region along with upper level ridging that will act as the infamous "heat dome" here for the next few days. On the edge of this heat dome, will be hit and miss chances for rain. We're actively tracking a complex of storms working around this ridge to our north. There is a slim chance for showers and storms this morning as that complex moves southeast. Less than a quarter inch of rain will likely come from this system as it is forecast to weaken as it arrives this morning. That's if it holds together, as there is some uncertainty surrounding that possibility. Either way, it's going to be a steamy day, as highs reach mid-90s, with enough humidity present to make us feel more like 105-110.
TONIGHT: The warmth doesn't break tonight, keeping us in the mid-70s overnight despite clearing skies. We'll have a light southwest breeze around 5-10 mph.
EXTENDED: Heat is the big focus, with only limited chances at a break from rainfall. Highs will reach upper 90s both Tuesday and Wednesday, with each day a chance at feeling more like 105-110+. Overnight temperatures will only fall into the mid-70s at best, making it tough for those without AC to cool off. Rain chances are low, but start to climb Wednesday night into Thursday as a cold front is welcomed into the region. Not much rain is forecast, but it may drop highs into the low 90s, taking us out of extreme heat Thursday afternoon. However, timing is uncertain, so a Heat Advisory lasts through Thursday. "Cooler" weather the rest of the week will mean highs near 90 into the weekend, with still dry conditions.
