Columbia man drowns at private pond on Sunday afternoon

HARRISBURG, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man has been identified as the victim after drowning at a private pond on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Shamsullah Omarzai, 32, of Columbia drowned after he was in a canoe on a private pond at 7575 W Sweringen Road in Harrisburg at 4:18 p.m.

Troopers said the canoe flipped over, throwing Omarzai from it. The report states he could not swim and was not wearing a life jacket.
