ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)

The St. Louis Cardinals ended the first half of the 2024 season much better than how the club started it. At the midway point of the year, STL owns a 50-46 mark and a second place position in the National League Central.

However, the Cardinals ended the first half of 2024 on a high note, necessarily. The Chicago Cubs won Sunday's game 8-3 to end a four-game set in a tie, 2-2.

A pair of two-run homers from Chicago's Pete Crow-Armstrong and Christopher Morel sealed the five-run loss for St. Louis, as starter Miles Mikolas dropped to 7-6 on the year. Mikolas went 5.1 innings into Sunday's loss, allowing six runs on eight hits.

Andrew Kittredge was the only relief pitcher, out of four, to give up any more runs. He threw for one inning and allowed the final two runs across home plate off of three hits.

Other than an RBI single, which brought home two runs, from Pedro Pages in the second inning and an Alec Burleson home run in sixth, St. Louis couldn't get much going offensively to respond to Chicago's firepower.

Up next - skipper Oli Marmol and company will enjoy the MLB All-Star Break. Then, the second half of the season will begin on Friday, July 19 against the Atlanta Braves. First pitch is slated for 6:20 p.m.
