Nearly $11 million transferred to agencies from Missouri’s adult-use marijuana program

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services transferred $10,918,344 -- generated in the state’s adult marijuana use program – to multiple agencies, a Thursday press release says.

Missouri voters approved an amendment in November 2022 that made recreational weed legal and included provisions that requires fees and taxes generated be transferred to Missouri Veterans Commission, Missouri State Public Defender and DHSS.

Here’s how funds were distributed, according to the release:

• MVC received $3,639,448 for health care and other services for military veterans and their dependent families;
• MSPD received $3,639,448 for legal assistance for low-income Missourians;
• DHSS has $3,639,448 to operate a grant program for to increase access to drug addiction treatment and overdose prevention and reversal methods.
