COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz continued his hot streak on the recruiting trail, on Wednesday, as four-star safety Charles Bass committed to the Tigers.

The East St. Louis native picked the Tigers over offers from Illinois, Arkansas and Kansas State. Bass, coming in at 6-foot-2, 185-pound, also had a slew of other power-five offers, including LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, Nebraska and Michigan.

According to ESPN, Bass is the No. 37 ranked safety in the country and the No. 11 recruit in the entire state of Illinois. He was a part of an East St. Louis Flyers team that went 10-3 overall in 2023, while also capturing an undefeated conference mark. During his junior season, Bass collected 74 tackles, an interception and two fumble recoveries.

He is the 17th commitment in Drinkwitz's class of 2025, five of which have come just since the Fourth of July. Coach Drink's class is now ranked No. 13 in the nation, according to On3, and is the 6th best in the Southeastern Conference.
