COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia's annual fireworks show will take place Thursday night as planned.

The city will hold its Fire in the Sky event starting at 6:30 p.m. at Stephens Lake Park, according to a news release. Fireworks start at about 9:15 p.m.

The event was in doubt after rains have inundated Columbia over the past two days and more is possible Thursday night. More than 4 inches of rain was recorded Wednesday at Sanborn Field in Columbia and nearly 2 inches have fallen since midnight Thursday.

The city says it has been monitoring the forecast and consulting with emergency management leaders, the release says.

Updates on changing weather conditions will be posted to the Parks and Recreation hotline, 573-874-7663.

Most of Mid-Missouri remained under a flood watch until late evening Thursday. The forecast includes chances of showers and thunderstorms at the same time the fireworks show is scheduled.

City of Moberly officials also said that city's show would go on as planned at Howard Hills Athletic Complex. The event starts at 4 p.m.
