Tracking heavy rain overnight, strong storms tomorrow night

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers early. Showers and storms becoming more widespread overnight into tomorrow morning. 2-3" rain is likely, with locally higher amounts possible. Watch out for water covered roads. Lows near 70.

TOMORROW: Rain clearing by mid-morning with partly cloudy skies. Hot and humid with highs in the upper 80s. Storms developing by late afternoon and evening could become severe, with damaging winds as the main threat.

EXTENDED: Another round of showers and storms will develop and move across Mid-Missouri tonight, with the heaviest rain becoming more widespread by daybreak. A Flood Watch in effect across much of Mid-Missouri along and south of I-70 where 2-3"+ additional rainfall can be expected, on top of the 2-6" we received overnight into this morning. Rain clears by mid-morning, leaving us warm and humid for much of the holiday. By late afternoon into early evening, isolated to scattered severe storms will be possible, bringing the threat of heavy downpours and damaging winds through late tomorrow night. The primary focus for storms will be along and south of I-70, so fireworks displays may fare better farther to the north. We clear out completely by Friday morning, with temperatures much cooler in the lower 60s. We'll have lower humidity and highs in the low to mid-80s both Friday and Saturday, with warmer air and a chance for storms returning by late Sunday.
