Funeral held in Houston for 12-year-old girl whose body was found in a creek

HOUSTON (AP) — A 12-year-old girl whose body was found in a shallow creek earlier this month in Houston was remembered for her love of reading and animals. A funeral service was held on Thursday for Jocelyn Nungaray. Police say Jocelyn sneaked out of her home the night of June 16 and her body was found nearby the following day. A medical examiner concluded that she had been strangled. Two Venezuelan men who entered the U.S. illegally have been charged with capital murder in her death, which has been used by Republicans to criticize President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.
