Things to know about the Karen Read murder case, which could go to a retrial

Associated Press

DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) — Prosecutors in Massachusetts say they plan to retry Karen Read for the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend. She’s accused of striking him with her SUV and leaving him to die in a snowstorm. The judge declared a mistrial after jurors said they were at an impasse and that deliberating more would be futile. Read’s defense now says four jurors said they unanimously agreed to acquit her of murder and leaving the scene where John O’Keefe died. They want the judge to prevent prosecutors from trying her again on those charges. Prosecutors asked the judge Friday to deny the defense request. Both sides return to court July 22.
