JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City police officer broke his hand while arresting a man on Sunday, according to court documents.

Tyrone Blanks Jr., of Jefferson City, was arrested at 1:28 p.m. Sunday and was charged on Monday with second-degree assault. A warrant was issued and no bond was set. He was not listed on the Cole County Jail roster on Wednesday night. Blanks’ warrant lists him as being in custody.

Court documents say Officer Spencer Davis was injured by Blanks while trying to arrest him. Davis was treated at an area hospital.

According to the probable cause statement, police were called for a peace disturbance about a man with mental health issues. Blanks allegedly told police that he was going to die that day and was pretending to hold a gun and yelled “Boom!” at cars driving by, the statement says. Blanks was allegedly doing that while standing in the middle of a road, court documents say.

Officers tried to arrest Blanks, but he ran away, the statement says. Blanks allegedly ran around a house and hopped over a fence, the statement says.
