Tracking more dangerous heat before strong overnight storms
TODAY: It's another ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day, as Tuesday is similarly hot compared to Monday, with heat index values ranging from 103-107. Actual high temperatures will land in the mid-90s, but dew points in the 70s will make us feel like triple digits. Most of the day will be dry, and shrouded in a layer of thin clouds aloft. This may keep temperatures a bit cooler than forecast, but it won't help the humidity. These clouds are blowing in from storms that fired up to our west last night. The same will happen northwest of us tonight, which will likely impact us overnight into Wednesday. Outside of an isolated afternoon storm, we expect Tuesday to be mostly dry.
TONIGHT: The evening will be active north of us, as storms develop along a boundary from north of St. Louis to Omaha. The storms near Omaha will have potential to grow upscale into a cluster of strong storms that may blow into the region late tonight and early Wednesday morning. Our threats with this line will primarily be wind, but hail cannot be ruled out on an isolated basis.
EXTENDED: Storms will exit Wednesday morning, likely by the noon hour. We'll then see clouds clear through the day, and dewpoints fall. We'll start the day muggy, but with temperatures settling in the upper 80s, and dewpoints in the 60s, we'll avoid extreme heat. Thursday feels even nicer, with only slight humidity, and highs in the 80s. The break is short lived with a warm front bringing more storms and heat on Friday. Highs are forecast in the low 90s. Rich dewpoints will again push heat index values near triple digits. Rain and a nearby cold front keeps rain in the forecast over the weekend, with temperatures vaguely in the 80s and low 90s.
