Tracking dangerous heat, strong storms tomorrow night
TONIGHT: Mostly clear and warm with lows in the upper 70s.
TOMORROW: Dangerous heat continues with heat index values between 104-107 degrees. Partly sunny with isolated to scattered showers and storms.
EXTENDED: Extreme heat continues with high pressure overhead, allowing for a very muggy night and another dangerously warm day tomorrow. Highs reach the upper 90s tomorrow with heat indices in the 104-107 degree range with isolated storms possible by late afternoon. A Weather Alert Day continues tomorrow night as strong storms are expected ahead of a cold front overnight. Storms could produce quarter size hail and damaging winds up to 60 mph through early Wednesday morning. As rain exits, we'll get some relief as temperatures drop into the upper 80s with lower humidity. We'll be dry through Friday, but another warm front lifts in from the southwest, sending temperatures back up into the 90s with a heat index near 100 on Friday afternoon. A few storms are possible Friday night into Saturday as the cold front works through, and that will cool us down for the remainder of the weekend. Rain amounts will be beneficial, especially north of I-70 where minor drought has returned. Amounts will be highest in that area, with 2-3" possible by the end of the week. Columbia and Jefferson City will pick up around 1".
