Tracking dangerous heat and strong storms Tuesday night
TODAY: Monday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day as dangerous heat looms in the forecast early this week. Temperatures reach upper 90s with enough humidity to have us feeling more like 105 under mostly sunny skies this afternoon.
TONIGHT: We'll be warm overnight as well, with little reprieve from the heat. Temperatures only drop into the upper 70s, so check on your vulnerable friends and family that don't have access to air conditioning in the coming days.
EXTENDED: This heat remains fixed on Tuesday, with heat advisories in place through Tuesday night as the forecast keeps feels like temperatures near 105 through Tuesday afternoon. One piece of good news, as far as the heat is concerned, will be a cold front that spurs some chance for rain north of I-70 Tuesday morning, and again in the evening. Storms will have potential for hail and gusty winds Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. We'll need to watch for storm development in the afternoon Tuesday, but the greatest chance for storms comes overnight. Cooler and drier weather returns Wednesday. Humidity will be high Wednesday morning, but actively falling through the day under dry and sunny skies. We'll feel like 90s on Wednesday, before we feel coolest, with low humidity and highs in the 80s, on Thursday. Another warm front moves in Thursday night bringing rain chances back into Friday, but it may also bring heat to kick off the weekend as well. Increased rain chances Saturday may keep temperatures from excessive heat, but we'll have to wait for more details on the weekend forecast as it's cluttered by a nearby front that may bring high variability Saturday and Sunday.
