Tracking dangerous heat and a few storms over the weekend
TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with lows near 70.
TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and hot with heat indices in the upper 90s.
EXTENDED: Tomorrow is slightly hotter with highs in the low 90s and a heat index in the upper 90s before the worst heat of the month sets in for the weekend into next week. Saturday starts off hot and humid with a heat index between 98-100, but I'll be tracking a cold front that will move in from the north on Saturday night, bringing a chance for a few showers and storms late through Sunday morning. The severe risk is low, but a couple strong storms will be possible north of Highway 24. Sunday looks to be even more hot and humid despite the cold front passage due to increasing moisture. With dew points in the low 70s, it will feel like about 100-102. The upper jet stream remains to our north next week as high pressure builds to our west, with our hottest temperatures to come Monday and Tuesday. Highs reach the upper 90s with a heat index between 103-105. Tuesday looks like the more likely day for a potential Weather Alert Day with more widespread heat indices getting closer to 105. Another front slides through mid-week despite the upper flow staying north of us, bringing a chance for a few showers and storms between Tuesday night and Wednesday. The rest of the week looks warmer than average, but not as brutally hot. Ample measurable rain will be hard to come by for yet another week.Â
