Riley Strain autopsy and toxicology show alcohol, drowning caused death

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (KMIZ)

Riley Strain's autopsy and toxicology report show that alcohol contributed to his accidental drowning death.

The 22-year-old's death was ruled an accident with the cause being listed as drowning and ethanol intoxication, according to the report from the Davidson County Medical Examiner's Office released Tuesday.

The medical examiner reports Strain had a blood alcohol content of 0.228 -- nearly three times the legal limit to drive. The toxicology tests detected in his system isopropanol (a form of alcohol), caffeine, cotinine, nicotine and THC.

The University of Missouri student went missing on March 8 after being kicked out of a downtown Nashville bar. He was later discovered floating in the Cumberland River on March 22.

Nashville police there was no evidence to support claims of foul play. Videos later released by nearby businesses show Strain stumbling and falling around Nashville after being kicked out of the bar.

A spokesperson for the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission tells ABC 17 News its still investigating whether Strain was over-served alcohol on the night of his disappearance.

ABC 17 News also reached out to the Strain family, whose legal representative said they have no comment at this time.
