Las Vegas logs another record-high but weeklong heat wave losing grip on US Southwest

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Las Vegas has set a new record high for the second day in a row and Albuquerque tied its high mark. But forecasters say the weeklong heat wave that baked most of the U.S. Southwest earlier than usual in temperatures well into triple digits is on its last legs. Slightly cooler weather is expected through the weekend. The National Weather Service warns it will be short-lived relief before unseasonably hot weather returns next week. Excessive heat warnings expired Friday evening across most of the Southwest, but continue through Saturday in Las Vegas, where its never been hotter this time of year. It was a record-high 110 degrees in Las Vegas on Friday, 113 in Phoenix and 100 in Albuquerque.
