KINGDOM CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A St. Louis man was charged on Tuesday after he led deputies on a chase on Monday, court documents say.

Prentice Harris, 34, was charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, two counts of resisting arrest and two misdemeanors: Speeding 26 miles per hour over the limit and driving while revoked. He is being held at the Callaway County Jail without bond. A court date has not been set.

According to the probable cause statement, a Callaway County sheriff’s deputy was on the eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 70 in Kingdom City looking for a stolen black 2013 Chevrolet Malibu from Boonville. The vehicle was allegedly identified after passing a Flock camera at mile marker 139.

The Chevrolet passed the deputy at 4:08 p.m. and the deputy tried to start a traffic stop, the statement says. The Chevrolet began to stop and then sped away at 120 miles per hour, the statement says. The chase went into Montgomery County and Harris allegedly got out of the vehicle at mile marker 169 and ran away, the statement says.

A K-9 was used to capture Harris, court documents say. He then allegedly admitted to stealing the car in Boonville after being released from jail.

Harris was charged in Cooper County on Sunday with driving while revoked, a misdemeanor. He appeared in court by video from the Cooper County Jail at 1 p.m. Monday. Harris pleaded not guilty and was released under his own recognizance. A hearing in that case was scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 30 at the Cooper County Courthouse.
