Two charged with receiving stolen property after more than $4,000 worth of items taken in Maries County
BELLE, Mo. (KMIZ)
Two people were charged on Thursday in Maries County after more than $4,000 worth of items were stolen from a bus and residence on Route M in Belle.
Demaris Mothershed and Benjamin Byrd were charged with receiving stolen property. A warrant was issued on Thursday. A social media post on the Maries County Sheriff’s Facebook page says the two were arrested. A court date has not been set.
According to the probable cause statement, a contractor working at a property in the 18000 block of Route M in Belle told a deputy that they had tools stolen and believed the property owner also had items stolen. The owner allegedly told law enforcement that she had a number of items taken from a bus that was on the property, the statement says. The home also was allegedly broken into.
A number of items were taken, according to the probable cause statement, including televisions, a gun, a CCTV digital recorder, rare collectible stamps – some of which featured Marilyn Monroe designs, HART branded tools, a bed frame, mattress, solar panels and more.
A friend had allegedly called the one of the victims on Tuesday, stating that she believed she found the victim’s stamps for sale on Facebook marketplace by her neighbor, Mothershed (who was going by Demi Mothershed-Byrd on Facebook), according to court documents.
A search warrant was executed by deputies early Thursday and a number of stolen items were found, court documents say. The victim was allegedly able to identify the items.
