A Jefferson City man was charged with domestic assault and other felonies after he allegedly assaulted a pregnant woman on Tuesday.
Ediberto Estrada was charged with first-degree domestic assault, second-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, first-degree harassment and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. An arraignment is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cole County Circuit Court.
According to the probable cause statement, the victim stated that Estrada told her he was going to kill her and her child that was at the home. The victim is also seven months pregnant with Estrada’s child, the statement says.
The victim allegedly told law enforcement that she tried to call, police but Estrada took the phone from her, the statement says. Court documents say the victim does not speak English and Estrada allegedly limits the victim’s interactions with friends and family when instances like this allegedly occur.
Estrada then allegedly assaulted the victim, threatened to kill her and her child, and cut one of her fingers with a knife, court documents say. Estrada then allegedly started punching the pregnant victim’s stomach. The victim was able to fight him off by scratching his face, the statement says.
