Jefferson City cop breaks arm after falling from retaining wall during chase

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City police officer broke their arm Sunday morning after falling from a 10-foot retaining wall while chasing a woman who had allegedly punched a deputy in their face, according to a Tuesday press release from the Jefferson City Police Department.

The release states that police tried to “clear a large group of subjects from the Capital City Apartments at 507 E. Dunklin Street” at 3:55 a.m. Sunday. A woman who was previously trespassed from the property was identified and placed in handcuffs, the release states. Her name was not stated in the release.

After the woman was in handcuffs, police say a crowd began to form around the arresting officer and “several subjects began interfering and attempted to obstruct the arrest by pulling the arrestee away.” Police then stated in the release that another person was recording the arrest and another woman had punched a Cole County deputy in the face and then ran away.

While chasing after the woman, a Jefferson City police officer fell from a 10-foot retaining wall and ended up breaking their arm, according to the release. A Lincoln University police officer arrested the woman between two buildings, the release says. That woman’s name was also not included in the release.

“After further investigation, 9 more individuals have been identified for their role in the disturbance and are being actively sought,” the release says.

The woman accused of punching the deputy was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and resisting arrest, the release says. The other woman was arrested on suspicion of first-degree trespassing and resisting arrest, the statement says. No law enforcement officers were named in the release
