Woman hit by bullet in Columbia White Castle shooting accused of handing gun away
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A woman who was apparently shot in the back of her leg during a Friday shooting at the Columbia White Castle on Clark Lane has been charged.
Jayden McGerald, 20, of Columbia, was charged on Monday with tampering with evidence in a felony prosecution. She was booked into the Boone County Jail at 5:44 a.m. Saturday. Her bail was listed at $1,500 and she was not on the Boone County Jail roster on Monday afternoon.
The Columbia Police Department confirmed on Saturday that Louis W. Hart, 56, died Friday afternoon at an area hospital after the shooting. Another man allegedly involved in the shooting was described as being paralyzed from the waist down after getting shot in the chest, according to the probable cause statement.
Court documents state one person was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, though police have not confirmed the identity of the accused person and charges have yet to appear. McGerald is accused of helping that person, the probable cause statement says. Police told ABC 17 News on Friday that two men were shot and police were not looking for more suspects.
According to a heavily redacted probable cause statement filed on Monday, McGerald was shot in the back of her right leg. The statement claims one of the men felt the other was harassing himself and McGerald. Information identifying either man was redacted. One of the men was brought to Boone Hospital by McGerald, the statement says.
Court documents state that security footage at Boone Hospital allegedly shows McGerald talking on the phone with someone, whose name was also redacted. A person is then allegedly seen approaching the vehicle while holding a “shoulder bag,” the probable cause statement says.
McGerald then is allegedly seen placing an item in the bag, the statement says. That person then gets into a Nissan Rogue that belonged to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the statement says.
Police interviewed McGerald about the shooting before knowing about the missing gun, and she was not under arrest, according to the statement. McGerald allegedly told police that she picked up a gun from the ground at White Castle and the gun was in her car, the statement says. Law enforcement did not find the gun in her vehicle and a warrant was issued, the statement says.
McGerald went back to the Columbia Police Department after police called her, and she allegedly admitted to giving the gun away, court documents say.
