Tracking afternoon scattered storms with possible severe storms Tuesday

TODAY: Scattered showers and storms remain throughout the afternoon and early evening hours with an isolated stronger storm possible. It's warm, with highs almost near where we were on Sunday, but just a touch cooler thanks to clouds. Expect highs in the mid-80s.

TONIGHT: Skies are mostly clear overnight, with more dry time. We cant rule out an isolated shower or storm, but this is unlikely. Expect temperatures to remain warm, near 70 through sunrise.

EXTENDED: Starting clear and dry, Tuesday is an ABC17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. We will have a quick warm up, landing in the 80s by noon, likely sooner. Highs reach near 90, providing plenty of warmth and energy to the atmosphere. Fortunately, upper levels of the atmosphere appear warm as well, keeping a "lid" on things until the afternoon and evening. We say afternoon and evening, as it's possible we see storms after 2 p.m. and before 5 p.m. However, this is somewhat uncertain. If the lid holds, we'll stay dry until around 6 p.m. where a line of storms will move in. Either way, Tuesday night's storms will have potential for all types of severe weather. These exit by midnight, and we're left quieter overnight into Wednesday morning. Wednesday is notably cooler, with highs in the 70s north of a cold front that drives Tuesday's storms. Wednesday afternoon could see redevelopment near I-44 where the front will still be nearby. Thursday may give us one dry and mild day, with highs in the upper 70s, but storm chances return Friday through Sunday as an active pattern arrives with temperatures back in the 80s.
