Police find shell casings after shots were fired on Rice Road in northeast Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Shell casings were found near a home on Rice Road in Columbia after shots were fired on Monday evening, according to a Columbia Police Department spokesperson.

CPD spokeswoman Jenny Hopper said no injuries have been reported. Police are currently at a residence in northeast Columbia near the intersection of Rice Road and Meadowvale Court. The 4600 block of Rice Road was closed off by police.

A Columbia police lieutenant told an ABC 17 News reporter that shell casings were found at the scene. A reporter saw at least eight evidence markers at the scene. Police began putting up crime scene tape around 8 p.m. The scene was cleared at 9:49 p.m.

CPD Lt. Neal Sedgwick told ABC 17 News that a juvenile is in custody and “three or four others” were detained. A car was hit by a bullet and there is no threat to the public, Sedgwick said. Police were called for shots being fired “between two groups,” Sedgwick said

Nine Columbia police officers were at the scene, as well as an ambulance.
