Tracking strong storms tonight, drier Tuesday

TONIGHT: Severe storms moving in late with damaging winds between 60-80 mph and a few tornadoes possible after midnight. Lows in the upper 50s to around 60.

TOMORROW: Storms clear early, sunshine returns with highs near 80.

EXTENDED: Storms that become severe out across the Plains tonight will congeal into a squall line after sunset, bringing the threat of widespread damaging winds and a few tornadoes overnight. Storms will likely move into the Highway 65 corridor between 11:00 p.m. and midnight, and progress east through the night. The severe threat will diminish after around 5:00 a.m. Most of Tuesday is dry behind the cold front, with sunshine returning and highs near 80. A northward lifting warm front will bring humid and unstable conditions to the area again on Wednesday, with severe weather possible especially east of Highway 54 in the afternoon. The rest of the week will be quiet, with cooler temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s between Thursday and Saturday. A backdoor cold front moves in from the north, bringing a chance for a few showers over the weekend. Week long rain totals will be in the 1-1.5" range.
