Mizzou baseball evens up the series against No. 15 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team sent the series versus No. 15 South Carolina to a rubber match on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers topped the Gamecocks 8-3 at Taylor Stadium to even up the series, 1-1.

The MU bats were live out of the gates, with a four-run first inning off the bats of Helias alum Trevor Austin, Mateo Serna and Drew Culbertson. Culbertson paced the Tigers with the team-high three RBI in the victory, while Jedier Hernandez and Jackson Lovich also brought home runners for MU.

Javyn Pimental got the start on the hill for Mizzou, but was pulled in the first inning after an injury. There hasn't been any update on his condition yet.

After that, Carter Rustad came in and earned the win over the Gamecocks to improve to 5-6 on the year. He threw for 6.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits. He also fanned six batters.

Up next - Mizzou will look for a series upset against No. 15 South Carolina on Sunday, May 5. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
