Man charged with trafficking drugs after allegedly throwing meth over prison fence

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Christian County man was charged on Tuesday after authorities claim he threw about 64.2 grams of methamphetamine over a fence on March 30 at Algoa Correctional Center in Jefferson City.

Lucas Robertson, of Oldfield, Missouri, was charged with first-degree drug trafficking and having a weapon at a correctional center. A warrant was issued for his arrest on Tuesday and no bond was set. A court date has not been scheduled.

According to the probable cause statement, a witness reported on March 30 that two packages that contained meth were found on the prison yard.

The statement says that witnesses had been seeing an increase in people trying to smuggle drugs into the prison by throwing them over the fence, and into the prison. There were two other items found outside the fence, according to the statement.

Corrections officers then found Robertson wearing hunting camouflage while sitting on the ground in the woods near the prison, court documents say. A blue backpack that contained about 40 grams of meth was found near him, the statement says.

The backpack also had the wallet of an alleged accomplice and a keychain that belonged to that accomplice’s fiancé, according to the statement. The keychain had a library phone number attached to it, the statement says.
