COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man was arrested for his alleged involvement in a shots-fired incident that occurred Sunday in the 1700 block of Paris Road, according to a Tuesday evening press release from the Columbia Police Department.

Dontay Williams, 18, of Columbia, was arrested, the release says. Police say shots were fired at 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

The release says Williams was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday 1000 block of Claudell Lane on accusations of first-degree assault, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of discharging/shooting a firearm at or from a motor vehicle, and one count of first-degree property damage. Williams was listed on the Boone County Jail roster on Tuesday evening, but a mugshot was not available.

Multiple law enforcement officers were seen Tuesday in the 1000 block of Claudell Lane during a standoff. Police at the scene were heard instructing someone in an apartment that they had a warrant for their arrest and instructed them to come out of the building with their hands up.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw five Columbia police officers, a Boone County Sheriff's deputy and a K-9. An armored vehicle rolled by the scene, as well. Police arrived to the scene at 3:30 p.m.

A car was later towed away from the scene, with a Columbia police vehicle following the tow. The towed vehicle had damage to its rear bumper, primarily to the passenger side. Damage was also observed in the front of the vehicle, which appeared to show the front bumper was missing.

A crime scene van arrived to the scene around 6:13 p.m.

Another man was arrested on Sunday and charged on Monday. A probable cause statement claims the man was arrested after police were called to the Paris Road shots-fired incident.

Christopher Leonard Carter, 27, of Kansas City, was charged on Sunday with illegal gun possession and tampering with evidence in a felony prosecution. Carter is being held at the Boone County Jail without bond. A court date has not been scheduled, according to Casenet; but jail records indicate that he has a court appearance at 9 a.m. May 28.

According to Carter’s probable cause statement, police responed to Imperial Coffee on Paris Road at 2:47 a.m. after a report of shots being fired was called in. Court documents say that a white Lincoln was likely traveling to Columbia Square Apartments on Claudell Lane.

Police knocked on the door of a residence and allegedly saw Carter walk out the back door, court documents say. Carter allegedly walked back into the building after seeing police outside of the residence.

Two people who lived at the residence were “adamant” that there were no guns in their apartment, according to the statement. The residents allegedly consented to a search and police found a gun in a purse, the statements. The residents claimed they did not own any guns and did not know of the gun that was found, according to court documents.

Police claim Carter hid the gun in the residence because he was previously convicted of gun charges and did not want to be caught again, court documents say. He allegedly agreed to let police look at his phone to show “geo-locations” that would show he did not leave the residence that evening, but did not find the information, court documents say.

Police found a text message in the phone where Carter allegedly acknowledged at 3:15 a.m. that police had found his gun. Police wrote in the statement that Carter is a “suspect in another incident in which shots were fired at another rime victim and struck their vehicle.”
