JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The company that provides transportation for the Jefferson City School District plans to lay off more than 100 workers this summer as the district goes with a different contractor.

A notice of layoffs at First Student's Jefferson City location was posted Tuesday on a state website. The notice says 105 employees will be laid off in June.

The layoffs are the product of JC Schools' decision in December to hire Student Transportation of America to provide transportation starting next school year. The district will get 62 new buses from STA.

First Student says the layoffs include 70 drivers and 30 monitors. Some employees could be transferred to other First Student locations, the company says in a letter to the state.
