Chiefs select Texas wide receiver with first round draft pick
DETROIT, Mich. (KMIZ)
The Kansas City Chiefs traded up to the No. 28 overall pick with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night to select Xavier Worthy in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Worthy is a wide receiver from the University of Texas and finished last season with 1,014 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Over his three-year career with the Longhorns, the 6-foot-1, 172-pound receiver posted 2,755 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns in 39 games. His 26 career touchdown receptions rank third all-time in Texas Football history.
The 2021 Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year and three-time All-Big 12 selection also recently set a new NFL Scouting Combine record after running a 4.21-second 40-yard dash. That time broke John Ross' 40-yard dash record, which he set back in 2017.
The Chiefs traded the No. 32, No. 95 and No. 221 overall picks for Buffalo's No. 28, No. 133 and No. 248 draft choices to select Worthy.
