Cardinals offense goes quiet in fourth-straight loss; Brewers complete the sweep

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)

All it took was a two-run single from Milwaukee's Owen Miller for the Brewers to complete the three-game sweep over the Cardinals on Sunday. Despite a stellar outing from pitcher Sonny Gray, St. Louis lost its fourth-straight game, 2-0.

The hit from Miller in the seventh inning marked the first two runs that Gray has given up in a Cardinals uniform. The pitcher struck out a staggering 12 batters over 6 1/3 innings of action at Busch Stadium, however, instead of being granted a win for his lights out pitching, Gray got handed his first loss of 2024.

There was no run support to be found on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinal offense mustered just six hits in the two-run loss. On Saturday, skipper Oli Marmol placed the blame for the offensive struggles on his star hitters, including Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado and Nolan Gorman. Those three registered just one hit, collectively, on Sunday.

St. Louis has now dropped eight of its nine games against NL Central opponents. The birds on the bat are 9-13 overall in 2024 and sit dead last in the NL central standings.

Up next - The Cardinals will host the Diamondbacks in a three-game series, beginning on Monday, April 22. First pitch is slated for 6:45 p.m. at Busch Stadium.
